Are You In Love With Your Business?

Are you in love with your business? Do you love the way it functions? The way it’s seen?

Many people with exceptional services and products mistakenly believe their product will speak for itself, but this is only partially true. People often judge a brand based on its presentation, even if they don't mean to. Our biology encourages us to avoid risk and danger, and a brand that appears disorganized can be seen as both.

If that isn't enough to convince you, consider this: after investing so many hours into your product, don't you think it deserves to be presented in a way that will do it justice? A way that will be most beneficial in attracting the type of clients you desire?

Sure, you can get by without marketing or a visually appealing logo.

I understand. But not investing in strategy is simply foolish. A brand is much more than its appearance. It encompasses its product, the people behind it, the processes that enhance the customer experience, and the small details on the packaging that make customers smile. All of these are opportunities to make your clients fall in love with you. How effectively are you utilizing these opportunities?

“A brand is so much more than its appearance.”

Even though we take appearance very seriously around here—

You only have to check our past clients’ brands to know that.

Brand strategy can be complicated when explained in detail

But what you need to know is that it will guide you from Point A to Point B in a way that makes sense for your current situation. I often see brand strategists giving advice to small businesses as if they were large companies. This can lead to frustration and failure. When creating a plan for your brand, it should be tailored to what you can achieve now, not in 15 years.

Is it time for a change?

Not necessarily a rebrand, but an evolution of what's already working. Scrapping everything every time you need a refresh isn't the best practice. What's stopping you from making the change?

Lack of time?

Unfortunately, if your business keeps growing without a solid foundation, you'll only get busier. It's like adding more chores to someone who's already struggling with productivity. They'll only get more stressed and burned out. Take a step back and get yourself some tools to improve your systems so you're ready when more business comes your way. Hoping for things to slow down isn't a viable solution.

I often hear: “It's an overwhelming process.”

Yes, it can be. However, if you do it with someone who makes it enjoyable, it can be a lot of fun. As strategists, our job is to balance the amount of information we receive at each stage. We want it to be exciting, not overwhelming!

Last but not least, I don't have enough money to invest in this right now.

That's fair. But, are you making it a priority to invest in it eventually? I'm no financial guru, but if I know that investing $2 will get me $4, it's a no-brainer. People often mistake strategy and design as a cost, but it's actually an investment. It will bring you a return on investment (ROI). I've seen it with my own eyes. Brands that were struggling to make it are now booked. Businesses that were thinking about closing, but are now expanding to multiple locations.

If there is one thing to take away from this, let it be this: strategy and design are investments that will pay off in the long run. You and your business deserve more than just blending into the background. It's time to take action and create something that you can be proud of. Investing in strategy and design will help to ensure that you have a business that stands out and is represented fairly. Don't let your hard work go to waste. You and your business deserve better than that.
